    Weeks into Months - Number

    Hi,

I am new to the world of excel and I am trying to create a spreadsheet that has a few basic/advance functions.

    1. I would like excel to be able to automatically figure out that my 'no of weeks field' is actually X amount of months. i.e. if I was to enter the number 16 into the field it would return a value of '4' for months. If 17 then 4.1.... is this possible? if so, please may you help guide me in how I could implement this into my spreadsheet.

I look foward to any response.

    Thanks in advance,

    Karo

    Hello Karo,

months are not equally sized. Some have 28 days, some have 31. That can not easily be transported to weeks.

Why should 17 result in 4.1 months? If a month is roughly 4 weeks, then 17 weeks would rather be 17.25 months. Or not? What would 18 return? 4.2 or 4.5?

Starting in January, you will by way off in December. The weeks and the months won't match anymore, because a month is not a simple calculation of weeks divided by 4.

Can you mock up a spreadsheet with some sample numbers and manually put your expected results against it, please?

Re: Weeks into Months - Number

    Hi Teylyn

Very good point, something I did not factor in.

The purpose of my calculation is as follows: Itt is for a resource utilization spreadsheet. We have already defined variables that cannot be altered as they are a global standard... these refer to our baseline numbers for activities. They are a numerical value and refer to 'no. Man Days' though a Man Day is 8 hours and based over a month (factoring in Weekends) this can vary. i.e. the Month of November is 22 Man Days and December is only 21 (factoring in Holidays).

    Calculation:
Joe Bloggs works on x project - baseline effort is 5.00 (man days) - duration of project = 17 weeks

The calculation needs to be Duration / Effort = expected effort in Weeks but obviously taking into account a working week is only 5 days.

Can I tell excel that January = x amount of man days and Feb = x amount etc and it calculate based on these variables?

Thanks again for any help you may be able to offer.

    Kind Regards,

    Karo

Would this type of calculation be possible?
