Filtering hides entire rows so it will automatically filter all columns even if you only have the filter set on a few columns.

I don't know what's gone wrong, but in my workbook filter works on the column it is applied to. Other columns remain untouched.
Actually filter filters data but sorts only columns it is applied to.
Do you have blank headers in some columns?
Try, unfiltering, then select all the columns, then re-apply filter.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Filter, applied to ALL columns works fine (filtering & sorting), when applied to one column, it filters entire worksheet but sorts only the column it is applied to. I have checked column headings. None of them are blank. What might be wrong?
Yes, if you are talking about sorting, then you need to select all the columns that you want sorted (CNTRL SHFT * is a shortcut to select the range if they are contigious).
another option is typing your range into the name box i.e. B2:J450 and hitting enter.
