Re: HELP, with what would have seemed a simple sum

Hi Michaela and welcome to the forum,

Circular Reference normally happens when you are putting your formula in a cell that is needed to calculate it. For example if you have in Cell A5 the formula of =Sum(A1,A2,A3,A4,A5) it would give you the error message. Note in the Sum formula above the cells are separated by a COMMA.

What were you trying to do with your Sum formula as you have no commas and some plus signs...

If you want to sum a range of cells you would write =Sum(A1:B3). This notation with the colon between the cells tells Excel to add the whole range. That would be the same as =Sum(A1,A2,A3,B1,B2,B3).

    I hope this helps...

    Re: Balance Calculation

Thank you for your reply, but no it hasn't helped on this particular sum. I probably didn't explain very well.

I need column C, to add to column D and then column E to minus from column D, to equal a balance on column F, is this even possible?

    Re: Balance Calculation

Might be an idea to post some numbers etc so we can see what you mean ?

I'm not sure if you are saying that Column E is to be a "fudge" figure such that C+D-E = F or whether in fact all cells (C:F) have values in them already and you're trying to adjust them all in some way.
