Creating histograms with large amounts of data

    Hello, first time posting.

I'm trying to make some histograms in Excel 2007 using the data analysis plug in and I'm having some trouble.

The data set that I am using is pretty long (~20,000 rows) and it is taking an exceedingly long time to generate the output. In the lower portion of the screen (right near the start button) it has said "Calculating Histogram..." for about fifteen minutes.

When I try to close excel there is no response. When I try to ctrl + alt + del out there is no response. When I try to shut down Windows 7 it says that it cannot shut down because Excel 2007 is busy (or words to that effect).

I've had problems using Excel with large amounts of data in the past, and I'm wondering if it's just not possible to create histograms for this much data. Any help that anyone could provide would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

John, I have seen that problem reported before...I don't have an exact solution for you but you can try Microsoft's hot fix...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938538
