    UXD files will not open in excel

    I am trying to import a UXD file via the 'text import wizard'. The file consists of two columns of numbers I would presume in columns A and B.

    In step 1 of 3 I can choose 'Delimited' or 'fixed width' file types. I 'import from row 1' and the original file format automatically appears as 'MS-DOS (PC-8)'

    The preview of my file actually shows the 2 columns as they should be displayed.

    In step 2 of 3 I have tried most of the different delimiters and I'm not sure whether to tick the 'treat consecutive delimiters as one'

    In step 3 of 3 I set 'column data format' as text and then I finish the process.

    However, my spreadsheet appears blank! I don't know what I am doing wrong?

    I don't suppose you can post a sample file?

    I am not permitted to upload the file because of the extension.

    Not even if you zip it first.

    Hi,

    The file appears just to be a comma delimited text file. Easy option would be to change the file extension from .uxd to .csv and it should then open in Excel automatically. Failing that opening it as you describe and using comma as the delimiter worked fine for me.

    changing the extension to .csv allows the file to open. However, using comma delimited still will not work for me. I have tried both excel 2007 and 2010.

    Re: UXD files will not open in excel

    I'm using 2003 but no matter what I do the file opens without any problem.

    I've attached the file I opened through the Text Import Wizard.

    Re: UXD files will not open in excel

    Just change the extension to csv and open it:

    A
    1
    ;content of C:\My Data\Materials\Ansarifar\amrit fernandopulle\140319a epdm+Kln a.raw - (Diffrac Plus V4 file)
    2
    _FILEVERSION = 3
    3
    _SAMPLE = 140319a epdm+Kln a
    4
    _+SAMPLE
    5
    _SITE
    6
    _USER
    7
    _GONIOMETER_CODE = 20
    8
    _STAGE_CODE = 7
    9
    ; Goniometer : D8 theta/2theta
    10
    _SAMPLE_CHANGER_CODE = 0
    11
    _ATTACHMENTS_CODE = 0
    12
    _GONIOMETER_RADIUS = 141
    13
    _MONOCHROMATOR = 0

    Re: UXD files will not open in Excel 2010 (2007?) but will in 2003... use .txt extension?

    Hi,

    Had the same problem... and worked out that Excel 2003 allows you to import the data correctly.

    It must be a bug in Excel 2010 (and 2007?)?

    The data can be seen in the import screen... but once you press the Finish button nothing comes up.

    Changing the extension to .csv works but does not take you through the import options... which means data having two columns will not be correctly separated.

    Changing the extension to .txt works!!!

    You will get all the normal import options.

    This seems like a bug. Can Microsoft please fix it?

    :-)
