Angry excel 2010 very slow to open/save workbook

I have installed excel 2010. My workbook (created with office 2007), is slow to open and save. Approx 30secs to as long as a minute.
I have researched as much as poss, but no solutions. Tried changing the DDE settings, Have done a repair to the program. The workbook is very small (1.9mb), has no macros, very basic data. (some check boxes)
Any ideas what else I might do to speed this up?
    Running XP pro
    thanks in advance
    Dave

Does this happen with all workbooks?
    Hope that helps.

that is a great thought.... I didn't have any other workbooks, so I just made one with one line of text and saved it to my desk top. It saved and opened instantly. So something would appear to be an issue with my workbook...not the program. However... the same workbook opens fine on my laptop which is running Office 2007

I would have checked that before messing about with settings like the DDE!

Is there any VBA in the workbook, does it use Array Formulas?
Is there excessive formatting in it?

I didn't actually change any DDE settings (i don't think) that was advice I followed from some other place offering solutions. No My workbook is VERY basic. It is my work records. I am in the medical business...it is just a list of patients, dates, and minimal other data. Only 2 sheets being used in the workbook.
total of about 200 rows, and 12 columns. As I mentioned, one of the columns has check boxes in it, but I can't imagine that is an issue.

Try exporting the sheet to a new workbook

a little embarrassed, but i am not sure how to do that in 2010... I will look about and see if I can find the function. I did however try to just copy and paste it into a new book...that didn't work, I also saved it in "97 - 03" format... again, no change.

Right click on the Tab, choose Copy & new Workbook

    Save as a 2010 workbook

Re: excel 2010 very slow to open/save workbook

found it..... I copied each column seperately into a new workbook and saved at each step. They all saved, close and reopened instantly until I did the column with the check boxes..that one brought everything to a halt.
