Red face Change number formatting for style Normal

Using Excel 2007 - I have a large workbook with several worksheets - been using it for years and have succesfully converted to .xlsx format for a long time and use it every week.

All of a sudden every empty cell, and any cell not specically formated, in
every worksheet has a default cell format of Date. Every blank column and row or any cell with not a specific format.

I suspect the number formatting for style Normal got changed to some Date format. How do I change the number formatting for style Normal to General?

    Thank you!
    Candice

Hi Candice, welcome to the forum.

When you create a new workbook, do the cells on those worksheets also default to Date format? If so, I think you may have either a template setup that Excel is using for your defaults, or you have an add-in that is doing it accidentally.

To see if you have a template controlling your formatting, look in the folder:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\XLSTART

If you see a file in there called "BOOK" or "SHEET" (no file extension) then Excel is indeed using either of those as a template, but it should not have affected current sheets (I could be wrong).

If nothing is there, do you have any add-ins or macros in a personal.xlsb file that load when Excel starts? You can check in the VB Editor for either - they would be listed in the Project window as something like "VBAProject (PERSONAL.XLSB)" or "VBAProject (some_addin.xla)".
