How to change the DEFAULT values of Excel 2007 ?

    Hi,

If I want to format a cell I go to that menu. Choose formatting number.
The default value vill appear with 2 decimal digit.

I want to change it to 3.

    How can I do so?

Is it possible to change the DEFAULT values that Excel 2007 offers?

    Thanks.

Here is how to change the default decimal places. I don't know how to change the default value of a cell though. I'm trying to find that out myself.

Right click on the cell you want to change the default number o decimals for, go to the 'Number' tab, in the category section select the appropriate option (Number, Currency, Accounting, Percentage or Scientific) and directly below the 'Sample' you will see 'Decimal places:' and a field that you can increase and decrease in value from 0 to 30 (or higher if you type it in). There is also a shortcut. In the Ribbon, go to the 'Home' tab, go to the 'Number' toolbar, below the dropdown there are few useful short cuts including increasing and decreasing the decimal places.

I'm not sure, but you can give it a try.

    Excel 2007

Click on the big red Window-button on the left corner above.

    Options for Excel

Advanced => option for advanced => the second option gives => automatic add an decimal.

In my version it adds 2.

You can change that to 3.

I didn't test it, but maybe it is your looking for.
Notice my main language is not English.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

I just tried what oeldere suggested but it didn't do what we thought it would.

I tried with the formats Number, Currency, Accounting and General and when I entered "1" the value 0.001 populated. It did not have any effect on the format Percentage.

To have a default value in a cell:

In cell A1 type =IF(B1="","Default Value","")
Then select A1:B1, right click, select Format Cells..., go to Alignment
Under Text alignment - Horizontal: select Centre Across Selection
Then reduce the width of column A to 0.05.

Now it will look like cell B1's value is "Default Value" but if the user enters 0 there then "Default Value" disappears and if the user deletes the 0 they just entered "Default Value" reappears as the value of B1 (visually at least).

to use the Default Value in calculations if cell B1 is actually empty type IF(B1="",A1,B1) in place of wherever you are referencing that cell.
