Refresh cell when source for data validation has changed

    Hello,

I can't figure out how to refresh data in a cell with a dropdown list when the source list change.

Say I have a drop down list with 4 options: Phase 1, Phase 2, Remediation and Year End. The user selects Phase 1. In the source list, Phase 1 is changed to Phase 4. I don't know why, but Excel does not refresh the users choice and where it had Phase 1 now read Phase 4.
I have attached an example. Any help is really appreciated.

Re: Refresh cell when source for data validation has changed

    Hello,

a data validation list will present the user with a choice of options when they edit the cell. There is no dynamic link to the source that will change the selected value when the source of the data validation changes. That is not the purpose of data validation and is beyond its scope.

You'd need a different approach for that, for example use data validation with a list of fixed options that will never change, e.g.

    item 1
    item 2
    item 3

    etc.

then look up the value from a different table. See attached.

    cheers

    Thank you. That explains it.
