    Handling Symbols

I have a few old xlt files which have the ohms symbol ( Ω) in various locations, and which display it correctly on screen and in print. When I select any of the cells, however, the input line reads W, not Ω - but it still displays on the sheet as Ω. I want to search for each of the locations, but they don't show up in a 'find' - only the W shows.

If I put a new Ω symbol in the template via insert symbol, it behaves correctly. Is there any way I can find all these old Ω symbols?

    HI jhgibbs.
The cells containing the Ohm symbol are listing in the Symbol font. If you do a Ctrl-F search for "W" it will give you a list of all the entries. If you go to any of those cells and change font you will get the "W" instead of the Ohm.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Unca Wook

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. You are right, it searching for W does find the cell. But it also finds all the other cells with a W in it as well! I'm a bit confused, since the symbol is not on its own, it's listed as eg. 30Ω. Does it switch fonts in the middle?

And for interest's sake (and my continued education!) why does a new line I enter with 30Ω show the Ω in the input line, and the old xlt thing shows the W? is this something to do with 2007 working differently/better?

Once again, many thanks for your reply.
