    Continuously adding to one cell

I need to continually add numbers to one cell and to have it total in the same cell. For example: Each payday I need to add gross amount of the paycheck to March's income so if one is paid $200. on March 1st, $100. on March 8th, $500. on 15th and etc, I want to have one cell total $800. instead 4 (or 5) seperate cells. Thank you for any help and assistance.

    Hi,

Do you mean that with your 4/5 paycheck values in column B you want to see the total of column B? In which case

    =SUM(B:B)

If i enter the pay amount in cell c19 on March 1st as $200., I want to be able to go back to cell c19 on the 8th and enter $300.00 and the total showing in cell c19 as $500.00.

Can I ask a naive question? Why? With millions of cells to choose from, why do you want to input and total in the *same* cell?

A similar question was asked and answered recently:

Continuously enter into one cell and accumulate in another is possible; input and accumulate into one cell is not, AFAIK.

thanks for your note. The reason is convenience primarily. I know I can =Sum() then continually add the amount,(s) but I thought there was a way to add to the amount automatically.

Your requirement, and the one answered in the earlier post, is that yoy have no "audit trail" of what you have entered. If your memory is anything like mine, I'd soon lose track of what I'd input and what I hadn't ... with no way of checking.

Personally, if I did adopt the approach indicated, as well as clearing the value after adding it to the accumulator, I'd tag it onto the end of a column of input values.

You'd have the convenience of inputting into one cell but maintaining a transaction list elesewhere.

    Regards
