    Refreshable Web Query Problem

    I have a spreadsheet that I update daily. Some values are taken from a table on the website http://www.standardlife.co.uk/1/site...fund-info/life

    Before this website was last updated, I imported the data using Get External Data / From Web (Advanced Mode) and was able to refresh it easily. Now if I try to set up a web query in this way, the table of values does not appear in the window although other information on the web page is shown. I have tried using Get External Data / From Web (Classic Mode) and then the table does appear and can be selected but when I try to import it, I get a window with the message:

    File cannot be opened because:
    Use of default namespace declaration attribute in DTD not supported.
    Line 7, Position 53.
    <html xmlns:java=”http://xml.apache.org/xalan/java”>

    If you can tell me how to set up a refreshable web query that works, it will be most helpful.

    Many thanks

    Re: Refreshable Web Query Problem

    Hi John and welcome to the forum,

    I've run into similar problems as webmasters get more cute tools to create web pages. Excel WebQuery finds all the Tables on an HTML page and marks them with the yellow arrow. I believe you are aware of this. It looks like the web designer on you link above changed the information in the table to something newer that Excel doesn't understand and therefore can't import.

    I've lost the ability to WebQuery many sites as webmasters move away from standard HTML and into Java and other newer web building tools.
    One test is worth a thousand opinions.
