    Applying a percentage to the answer after adding the percentage

    Hi folks,

    I have a tricky little problem that is a difficult one for me to explain, but I'm sure this has a simple solution.

    Basically

    x = a percentage eg 23%
    A = basic amount
    B = x percentage of C
    C = A + B

    How can I put in formulae in the cell for B to allow me to vary the figures used x and A to work out a value for B and also C?

    Can anybody help with this one? Is there a function that can deal with this type of problem?

    many thanks

    You could have a look at Goal Seek.

    Do you mean B to be "x percentage of C" or should it be "x percentage of A"?

    B is x percentage of C. That is the problem I have as the answer B then has to form part of C (A+B=C).

    I have attached a sample. I have difficulty explaining.

    Solved it now, thanks. Not as complicated as I thought. Just needed to work back from the answer by using applying 1/1.23.

    Thanks
