    Linking cells

    Hi, please help a newbie!

I have 2 spreadsheets: Products and Sales

Products contains headings: Product, Unit cost, Sale price and a couple more

Sales contains the same 3 headings above and others. When I type in a product name here I would like the Unit cost and Sale price to appear automatically.

    Appreciate any help
    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the board

The VLOOKUP function is a possibility. Check XL help for syntax

That doesn't seem to come out with the correct result.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

Thanks, I have now managed to figure it out although I had to put it in the same workbook in order to do it.

    Appreciate the help.
