Excel 2007 : X axis tick marks will not show up

For some reason I cannot get the X-axis to show the tick marks, even though I have them selected to show on the format X axis dialog box. I have them set to cross the axis...no tick marks show up though. My Y axis tick marks show up just fine. I have a secondary y-axis, but that shouldn't affect the x axis tick marks, so I am stumped.
