Lookup Latest entry of a value from chronological entries.

    Hi,

I have a table where I simply log the chronological entries of documents coming in and going out. As in attached document.

What I am looking for is to get the a summary sheet that looks up the last record for each document in column "Document Number" and display it.

Example the summary sheet should display status for document number QA-I1-SNL-F16-1040340-0019 as Closed. as the last record for this document is at serial number 6.
Where as for document number QA-I1-SNL-F56-1040340-0097 it would show status as APPROVED.

I have tried vlookup, but it needs the data to be in ascending order which is not possible here. Also tried Index clubbed with Match, it also fails to give the correct result.

Please suggest a way out on this.

Ps. the summary sheet would have all the unique document numbers.

    Thanks arthurbr,

I should have been more clear about what I need. Actually the last chronological value needs to be reflected in a separate sheet. Have a look at book2.xlsx sheet "Summary"

Here the lookup does not work for me.
