    Scatter Graphs

    Hi,

I am new here and my name is Ashley.

I have a problem that has had me back and forth from site to site to try and get an answer. Well, i am trying to create a scatter graph that uses multiple y values to a single x value.

An example of how i would like the graph to display the data is as follows.

In the x column, i would have a person by name. There would be multiple people and the y axis would represent time. Every time a person completes a task the time is recorded. I would then like to be able to view the finish time of each job associated to each person. The time each person finished each job would be displayed directly above the name. This would give clear indication as to productivity during the day. (The actual job is of no importance)

If there were multiple crosses above say john during the hours 9:00 till 11:00 yet less crosses from say 13:00 till 15:00 i could deduce he was more productive during the morning.

A scatter graph may not the best option to display this information, however, it is the only type i can think of that is similar in style as to what i want.

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

    Many thanks,

    Ashley

    Re: Scatter Graphs

The frequency of markers within a given time frame does not necessarily tell the whole story.
Is somebody who is given 10 tasks, which only take 5 minutes to complete, more product than somebody who is given 1 task which takes 50 mintues to complete? According to your chart the answer would be yes as the first person will have 9 more data points for a particular hour slot.

Anyway to create the chart you need to assign as x value for each unique name and then plot a series for each person. The horizontal axis labels are provided by a dummy series plotted on the secondary axis as column chart.

    Hi Andy,

May I first start by thanking you for taking the time to respond.

I do understand that it is not a fair way to measure productivity in general, but, for the application I wish to use the chart, it does give the graphical representation i am looking for.

I have had a look at the file you posted and it does everything i am looking for. I think my failings were not to associate the person to the number on the x axis.

Thank you very much for your speedy help on this subject.

    Ashley
