Is there anyway to make a column into a ranking system of sorts. Like only one #1 in the column, and only one #2 in the column?

Hello & Welcome to the Board,
Take a look here http://www.cpearson.com/excel/Rank.aspx

Regards, Jeff
Thanks, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I'll tell you what I'm trying to accomplish.
I have a list of 93 names. Each one can have a rank in a category 1 - 93. I need to be able to add a 94th name at rank, say, 55, and have ranks 55 - 93 drop to 56 - 94. Understand. Sorry if I can't explain too well.
Often what can help is to post a sample workbook so there is no confusion.
What you have and what you desire...
Alright, I need the four columns for Importance, Force, Combat, and Reputatuion to have a ranking system, only 1 character per number, per se.
I am a nerd. Don't judge.
No judging here, just doing some Excel
A little more explanation please. You state in the previous post about 93 names, but I don't see that many names.
Where do you want the rank and do you want the rank as per a total of Importance, Force, Combat, and Reputation?
I haven't added all the names yet. I guess I should have said that already. Anyway, I just need each of the columns to be a separate standings, so to speak. So only one name occupies a position. Like One name in 1st place, and one name in 2nd place. But I need to be able to add more names. Like because there are only 4 names right now, I need to be able to add someone in 3rd place, then have the current 3rd place occupant move to 4th place, and the current 4th place occupant move to 5th place.
And I guess rank wasn't the correct word to use. I want the current columns to be sort of like standings. with 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, etc. Sorry if that got a little repetitive.
I am still having trouble following exactly what you want.
With only four names could you provide an example of what you really want?
I've added some columns for a rank by category which is dynamic.
Please see if you can spell this out a little better.
Alright, I'll see if I can explain this correctly.
I need a column that changes dynamically. Each cell in the column will have a number. There can only be one of any number in the column. If I add another number to the column that is already there, I need all of the numbers in the column lower than the number added to decrease by one, to make a space for the newly added number.
Hows that?
And while I have you here, is there a way to make the images in the ERA column reorder with the filter. Like if I make the list smallest to largest in Force, have the images move with their rows?

Um, did I do something wrong? I apologize in full for whatever it is I said. I'm still looking for answers if anyones got em'.
Alright, I'll try to explain this another time.
Do you know how in Word, if you have a numbered list, you can drag and drop the numbers to easily rearrange the order? I need this functionality in Excel.
Nothing is coming to mind, but look at the attached.
Example: Cut Jun (B5) and insert cut cell at B2.
Is this what you are asking?
If not then since you are asking a different question from Ranking in columns then post a new thread and one of those much smarter than I can get something figured out for you.
Did you not see my PM to you a few days ago?
That's not exactly what I was looking for. I'm trying to, instead of having to cut Jun and eliminate Apr, change the 5 next to jun to a 2, and have it move up automatically.
Not sure if there is anything beside some code to perform this.
Open the attached >> enable macros >> change a number in Column A
Is this something which will work for you?
This is very close to what I'm looking for. It does the row shift that I'm looking for. It would be perfect if after you change make one number lower, say the "2" to a "5", have the 3 become a 2, 3 become a 4, and so on.
I'm guessing you are saying a renumbering?
Try this...
What if you changed #7 to a 2?Please Login or Register to view this content.
There is already a 2 so would the new #2 fall after the already existing 2 or before?
