    Dependent Lookups

    Hey.

New to the forum and I aint that good at excel :S

I'm looking for some help on dependent lookups and was wondering if I could get some help.

    I have 6 columns

Site Name, Team Leader, Catchment, Area, Process

I have created a data validation drop down of these 6 column headers

I now want to create a dependent drop down that will show the distinct contents of the column I have selected in the first drop down. Presuming that Site Name is in cell A1 and each of the columns has the same amount of rows how would I go about this.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Thanks Again

    Re: Dependent Lookups

What do you mean by "distinct"?

Post a sample of your workbook showing your lists and try to illustrate what you expect as a result.

    Re: Dependent Lookups

Here is a modified copy of the previously posted example.

Notice that there are duplicate records appearing in the drop downs because of the duplicate entries in the list.

Is there anyway to remove these duplicate entries in the dropdown without removing them from the lookup lists.

    thanks again

    Re: Dependent Lookups

Generally speaking Lookup Lists should only have unique values.

Why do you have duplicates? This only complicates things unnescessarily.

See the attached to see how to remove duplicates with a formula.

Unfortunately this is one of those cases where my need for duplicates is taken as a given as, as present there is no way to get rid.
