    OLAP Cube???

Hi I have a spreadsheet, which is pretty complex since it's not two dimenstional. I attached the sample what I want to do but I can't devide cells nor merge cells because sorting will be the primarily function. I am not sure how to go about it. I know OLAP Cube might be the way to go but I don't know where to start. Any thoughts?

    Re: OLAP Cube???

    Hi,

You've shown us what the result should look like but not the original data. To use an Excel Pivot Table (the equivalent of an OLAP cube) you will need to ensure that it is two dimensional. If it's not already then you may need to add additional helper columns to string slice data in existing columns.

However if you're already using existing data for sorting, that presumably implies all rows do contain data.

To comment further we need to see your data.

THe report does not have to look this way, I am just trying to make a point what I am trying to do. It can't be two dimentional. Any thoughts on how to generate OLAP Cube in Excel?

    Hi,

As I say, upload your workbook and tell us specifically what you do expect to see rather than what you may or may not want to see.

    Hi,

I realise you've uploaded a workbook, but unless I'm misunderstanding, that shows what you want to see as the end result.

In order to get to that we need to see your actual data so that we can determine how a Pivot Table (OLAP cube) that looks like the example you uploaded, can be created from your data.

I don't have the data yet. I like to figure out the layout before entering data, this is just my style of working.

    Hi,

In that case I'm not clear what you're asking for, but if all you want to know is whether your example can be achieved with a Pivot Table the answer is Yes provided the data is a 2D table with all relevant columns complete.

    2D is not a problem. I need 3D, that's my problem.

    Re: OLAP Cube???

You don't need to upload actual data. If you can create dummy data (or borrow some data from someone else with a similar problem) then this will allow the forum members to be able to better visualize all aspects of your problem and offer possible solutions.

    Good luck.
