Question Excel find suddenly slow in 2003/2007 but not 2010

    Hi all,

We have a spreadsheet that has 6903 rows (catalogue info) and 22 columns. When the user runs a Find All with Value it used to be instantaneous. However, it is now taking a long time (maybe 30 seconds) to do the same find.

The workbook hasn't changed at all, and is now slow on different PCs using Excel 2003 and Excel 2007 on XP Pro.

It remains instantaneous on Excel 2010 (Windows 7).

I've googled in vain, and even changed default printers as I read that this may have caused it.

There are no macros, and no formulas...it's just pure data.

Thanks in advance for any advice given

It might be that the last Cell needs resetting, see

    Hope that helps.

Hi Roy. I've already looked at that page. Sorry, I should have said. There are no excessive blank rows or columns.

Re: Excel find suddenly slow in 2003/2007 but not 2010

I have a similar issue with a file between Excel 2007 and Excel 2010, but I'm wondering if the real difference is 32-bit versus 64-bit OS. It occurred when one of my sheets went over 130,000 rows, and affected find both inside and outside a macro. The computer with Windows XP 32-bit and Excel 2007 was running the macro faster than the computer with Windows 8 64-bit and Excel 2010 until at some point between 110k rows and 130k rows the macro started running unbearably slow on Windows XP and Excel 2007. It went from seconds to run find to greater than five minutes to run find. This meant the macro would take days to run if I let it. On Windows 8 and Excel 2010 the macro runs fine.
