Formula for counting date & cell data

Hi all,

I recently had some help with a formula for a worksheet and this is a follow up to this worksheet where I need help creating another formula.

I have attached an example document.

Basically, what I am trying to do is record how many times a group of files were opened on a set date so I can create a relevant chart.

In the example I have uploaded, I already have forumlas in place for calculating how many times each file has been opened and how many files have been opened per group. i'd like to break this down into daily counts if possible.

The formula I am looking for is for cell Q3 to calculate the number of times a file from Section 1 (G5:G43) was opened on 06/06/2011.

I hope this makes sense and if not please feel free to get in touch and I will try to explain it better. I'm fairly novice when it comes to excel so please excuse my ignorrance if I am confused by any replies!

By re-arranging slightly your data layout ( adding a ' section' column, you could use a Pivot Table and chart

Yes, I could re-arrange the data layout if you think that would help. I'm unfamiliar with pivot tables but willing to give it a try.

Ok, maybe I haven't explained this well or the example wasn't good.

I'll start a new topic with a different example to see if that helps.
