Auto-populate rows based on preceeding 2 variables

Hi- new to these forums, and quite new to Excel so apologies if this is a mind-numbingly dull or predictable question!

I am creating a Gantt-chart lite (not very heavy duty) and want to do the following:

Have 2 columns which refer to lists. These will be for start date (day of the month) and task. There are around 8 or 9 possible tasks, which take anywhere between 10-28 days with individual tasks allocated to each day. The subsequent columns are for the days of the month.

What I would like is for the day columns to be auto-filled, based on the choices of date & task- so if I were to select Task 1 to start on the 6th, and task 1 takes 7 days to complete, the cells representing the 6th-12th would be filled with the values for each day's task.

I don't have access to MS project, which would greatly simplify this process, so setting up a sheet that can do all that would save me a HEAP of time.

    thanks!

Hi Marvin- thanks for the reply.

This very nearly does what I'm after, except it doesn't show a daily breakdown of tasks with each task, of that makes sense? So each bar would be broken into daily deliverables. I'm guessing the only way to do this is by having the values in the cells, as opposed to on a chart?

I've attached an example of what I'd like it to look like, with values manually entered (link to image here: http://tinypic.com/r/116lt7p/7).

So I'd choose a value for date and task, and it would automatically enter the values to the right.

    Hi,

I need an example of what you want to enter and where you want to enter it, and then, what the outcome should be.
