    Date Formats:Custom

I have formated the cells to show: "Custom" dd-mmm-yy, but I need to enter the Year, month, date to give me the correct date in the cell.
Why does it get swopped around? Is it a Windows issue or an Excel issue.
    What am I doing wrong?

I have attached an example to show what happens.

    Thanks
