Pivot table, Automatically puts data in alphabetical

    Hi all,

Very new to power pivot and pivot tables. I have a pivot table with a fairly large data set and it is automatically placing a field in alphabetical order, i do not want this. I would like it to appear in the source datas order. I have gone to sort and it is checked to appear in original order not sure why it is not working. i have gone to options by right clicking and when i go to display options where it says alphabetical or source data order, alphabetical order is checked and i can't change it. very annoying. Secondly could someone gove me a heads up on possible reasons why one whole column of data is not appearing. The column is available though there is no visible data it is just blanks. thanks for your help.

    Regards
    Dan

Re: Pivot table, Automatically puts data in alphabetical

I just noticed that the column that is showing no data, there is a background error showing in my source table. it is saying for every cell in that row Inconsistent Calculated Column Formula Error. What is this? and could this be the reason? also i am a little perplexed as I do not have formulas in these cells it was a copy paste of a filtered column in another sheet

Hi all I posted this some time ago and still can't figure it out. as mentioned previously the data is ticked to appear in Source data order though this is not the case at all. it is appearing in az ascending order which is not marked and i have no idea why this is occuring does anyone have any experience with this problem. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Pivot table, Automatically puts data in alphabetical

I think the problem is coming from (pivot table) Options, when i click on that and go into display atthe bottom there is Field List this section is not illuminated and therefore i cannot change anything and here it is marked as alphabetical. does anyone know why i can't change this? I have read that OLAP sources cause this i don't even know what that means. The data comes from the net and i then arranged it in tables and copied that table to another workbook. then executued the pivot table. Lost

hello all before closing this thread a solution for this for those who come across the same problem is to assign a number to each name this way they will appear in order.
