    Live Linked Spreadsheets

    Hi,

I'm new to the forum so hello to everyone!

I'm looking for some help with a tricky problem. I want to "live" link two different spreadsheets that are open in two separate Excel windows on the same PC.

Both spreadsheets will be open, and I want to set it up so that if I change the value in cell A3 (for example) in xls1 that it immediately updates this value to cell A3 in xls2. Column A would be the column where xls1 was the master and column B would be the coulmn where xls2 was the master. So if I changed the value in cell B3 in xls2 it would immediately update the value to cell B3 in xls1.

I have created a quick mock up here - shown in a sceenshot, I simply want the numbers in the green columns of each Excel window to live update into the spaces shown in red on the other Excel window.

    - Is there a commercial application out there that will do this link for me?

    - Is there some VB code / macros I can use to achieve this?

I am using Excel 2010 on Windows 7 64 Bit.

Thanks for reading this and thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.

    Regards,

Thanks for responding to my post and for your useful files. This works well if both xls files are open in the same Excel Window (i.e. if you simply double click both files and open them in the same instance of Excel) and it live updates the other sheet.

However I need to have two instances of Excel open (I drag them onto different monitors). So I I open Excel once and then open one.xls and drag this to the left monitor. Then I open a second instance of Excel - Start - Programs - Office - Excel and Open two.xls and put this on the right monitor. I enable editing , enable content and allow the "update" however when you have the two files open in two separate instances of Excel in this way - it will no long live update.

Is there a way around this?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Regards,
