Force a column to accept only dates

i have a few columns, say, column A, B, C and I want to restrict users to enter dates only in column B.
If user enter a number 2, or some text, it will display an error msg.
if user enter say 7/2, it will display 2-Jul-11.
Does anyone know how to do it?

Hi mosaictu. This can be done using Data Validation from the Data tab in Excel 2007. Should be pretty self explanatory once you get into it. For displaying the correct format, you'll just need to format the cell ahead of time to the desired date format (d-mmm-yy). Good luck!

I tried that. But in data validation, it includes date, within a certain range - users need to enter the start and end date. But I need to allow users to enter any dates from 2000 til ???
    Any other options?

You enter the earliest date & latest date in the Data validation set up. Then the user can only enter dates between those limits
    Hope that helps.
