cell functions - making data in one cell prompt another cell

is there a way to make a drop down cell make a selection based on what particular info i put in another cell?

for ex.

all cells in column H have a dropdown list to choose from, if i enter data into a cell in column B (working in row 1 by the way), can i make excel perform a function to make a selection from the dropdown list...
