Best way to represent this data

    Hi all,

So my current task is this:
I have 3 tools and a week of data. There are 4 different shifts.

Here is the data in image:
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...pleofdata.gif/

I also uploaded the xlsx file:
    http://www.2shared.com/file/OdwswxF1...e_of_data.html

    So my 2 issues:
I was hoping to overlay all shifts on one chart. I want to differentiate the shifts by line style or something but keep the tools the same color. Is there a type of graph in excel to do this for me?

    2nd issue:
And then with checkboxes next to the tools, if I check it, it will show on the graph, if I uncheck the checkbox it won't show on the graph.

    Thanks!

Hi pg300 and welcome to the forum.

Find the attached that uses a Pivot Chart. You simply drop down the selector and it will filter the chart.

I just realized you are using 2003 which may not support this feature. Bummer!! Grab a 2010 Excel and it works great. I'll try to save to 2003 also and see what happens.

Hi Marvin! Thanks so much for such a prompt reply!
I will check that out right now thank you so so much!
I'm using 2007 i think it supports pivot (fingers crossed lol)

    edit:
Is there a guide for this? It works so cool! Thank you so much! I actually don't want to show the sum but a line per shift (each line different style). Is this possible? So I want to have tools in the top drop down

But this is so awesome! Thanks Marvin!

    HI,
You just need to play around with the pivot table fields to get close to what you want.
    See this attached.
Play around means to fully utilize the filters and sorts and drag fields to different places in the Pivot list.

Re: Best way to represent this data

Hi martin thanks so much for your advice. I found the perfect way to show my data.
However I am having one problem.

For the pivot table i want to see it with the "Row Labels" listbox having the items in this order: Week then Shift then Day

But for the corresponding pivot chart I want to see it with the "Axis Fields (Categories)" in the order: Week then Day then Shift

(not the swap in day and shift)

Is there anyway to configure it like this?
I attached the xlsx please see sheet "by week"

    Thanks so much!

    Hi,

I think you need to click on the PT and then show Field List. Then drag the words in the Row Labels section up or down to see what the chart looks like.

I think that is whay you want.

Re: Best way to represent this data

    Actually one last qeustion Martin.

    Please see attached file.

So i have these different layers. I want to be able to keep the x-axis of the combined chart constant.

The comnbined chart is a pivot chart so I can filter the layers there, but if i do i dont see the ELot numbers of the others (thex-axis gets cahnged).

Can you please help me to maintain a constant x-axis.

    Thanks so much!
