    Finding the sum of cells with a particular letter

    Hello,

    I have several excel spreadsheets with a column in each containing a Y or N. I want to know how many cells contain a Y and how many contain an N in each spreadsheet.

    Is there a formula to calculate this?

    Use COUNTIF

    e.g.

    =COUNTIF(A1:A100,"Y")
