Colour on Monitor not Matching Colour Printed

I have attached a workbook. For some reason, when I select the colour in the workbook under Format Cells > Patterns or any other way, I have a printing problem.

The colour of the cells on the monitor don't print out. They print in a 'yellow' colour. I've tried two computers and I get the same result. Does anybody know how to fix this? My printer is brand new and is a Brother Wireless MFC.

Attached is a workbook of the colour I need in the cells which prints yellow. Thanks.

The fill in those cells is yellow. The RGB values are 255, 255, 204, which gives you yellow with some desaturation.

What color do you see on your screen?

Thanks for your response, The colour I see and need is 'Ivory'. That's what it's listed as and what I need printed. However, when I print I get a 'Light Yellow' colour. 'Light Yellow' appears to just be above 'Ivory'.

Any suggestions? Thank you for your help again.

    That's odd. When I use 2003, I don't see names for colors.

What are the RGB values for "ivory"?

I suspect that what is going on is more of a mismatch between the calibration of your monitor and the printer, rather than anything having to do with Excel. Have you tried to print the same color from any other application?

On second look I do see color names, if I use the paint bucket icon to fill a cell. But I don't have Ivory.

    I still think it's a monitor/printer issue....

Thank you for responding. RGB for Ivory I believe is 255, 255, 240. If you go to Format Cells > Patterns > Then Pattern from the Drop Down Menu, you can scroll the mouse over Ivory which is above Yellow (Yellow is on the very last row). Maybe it has a different RGB in Excel, I'm not sure. The colour in Excel I 'm after I just found out is 255, 255, 204.

All applications seem to print the same yellow colour. Any suggestions? I don't know how to configure colours?

    Thanks.

If you are using an inkjet then the nozzles sometimes need to be cleaned. Else than that I would suggest viewing it on an other monitor and calibrating it that way to see if you get a different color.

Cleaned nozzles, tested this on a different computer and printer, same problem. It prints in yellow still. It seems that 'Ivory' will print in 'Yellow' unless configured. Quite strange. Thanks all for your help. Any further suggestions are welcomed.

Re: Colour on Monitor not Matching Colour Printed

My default palette does not include 255/255/204, so I configured my colors to add it by entering the RGB numbers, and Excel does call it "ivory".

When I set up a block of cells filled as ivory, it looks pale yellow to me and when I hold the printed page up to my monitor it was a very close match.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Try opening Paint, go to Colors, Edit Colors, Define Custom Color, and then put in the 255/255/204 numbers. See if the color looks the same in Paint as it does in Excel. Create a square of the color and print the image. Do you see the same problem you see in Excel?

Do the same thing in a non-Microsoft application, if you have one that allows you to define custom colors.

If you are getting the same results using a different computer and a different printer, then I cannot imagine what is going on.

Last suggestion is to have your eyeballs recalibrated

Yes, I thought about getting glasses and getting my eyes recalibrated too. However, my printed page does not look like the colour on my screen. The colour on my screen actually does not even resemble a pale yellow at all. Ivory looks like a shade darker than white.

Sorry, I tried printing in Microsoft Paint and also Adobe Acrobat Reader and I got the same results. My colour is definitely different. Is it possible for you to post here a sample of what your Ivory colour looks like?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Strange. Your 'Ivory' looks like mine too.

I'll have to look into this. Thanks.
