Need help grouping by similar words in second column

First off I'd like to thank the knowledgeable people here who take time to help guys like me out. It is really appreciated

What I am trying to do is insert a blank row and also the ~ symbol (or any character) at the point that the words change in the second column.

I hope it's apparent what I need to do here, if any questions please ask. It should be obvious after looking at the pics.

I have a list of over 100k keywords to sort this way and doing it manually will be a chore.

    Please help if you can.
    Thanks!

As with most gods, we're more likely to respond if you follow our rules, particularly rule #1 in this case. Thanks.

Also, please post a dummy workbook rather than screenshots. None of us want to have to retype in everything you've done to test out your data.

Sorry noob mistake, I'd edit the title if I could. I attached a dummy sheet.

Re: Need help grouping by similar words in second column

If you only have to do this once, here's a non-macro way: put =IF(B2=B1,0,1) in C2 and copy down as needed. Apply a filter to C and select 1. Highlight all the rows, hit Alt + ; (very important step, since it selects only visible rows), then Alt+i, then r. This will give you blank rows. Now you can select only blanks in C, put your tilde in column A, copy that cell, Ctrl+Shift+down, Ctrl+D. Then you can just delete column C.

    Thanks for the input!

I am not familiar with macros but have used formulas so I gave that a go. Everything seems to go as it should but I am left with a blank worksheet with tilde's in column A.
I made a quick video 1:30 long if you could see if I am doing anything wrong.

At about :42 in, your data just disappears. What happened? Also, it seems like you skipped the part about selecting 1, then the steps to insert rows where needed.

Re: Need help grouping by similar words in second column

I think that's the answer to the question. You did that before you selected 1 in the filter. Don't know if you did Ctrl+; but what happens if you select rows and hit Alt+I is it inserts rows before them. Your data didn't disappear so much as move way, way down. Sometimes, the order of steps doesn't matter much; in this case, it makes a huge difference.
