Is there a way to ensure data validation with date formats? If the user enters numbers not formatted in "mm/dd/yyyy" or "m/d/yy" format, is there a way to validate that using the data validation drop down?

Data validation provides a Date option by which you may specify a variety of criteria.
Have you taken a look at the Data Validation dialog box and the Date criteria options?
