Fill series automatically in certain cells across columns by formula

Hello Everybody, I am new in Excel and making Seating Plans for Examinees coming from different colleges. I am trying it in Excel 2007 and I wonder if there is any formula that if I fill one cell of the first bench, the other cells will be filled in automatically without the use of the Cell Handle.

Features of my Room and Seating Plan
The room is rectangular in size.
There are 3 columns of benches.
There are 10 benches in each column
In each bench, 3 students can sit.
There are seating arrangements for 90 students
I took Column A,B,C as a bench kept D blank for walking between column then EFG a bench, H blank; IJK is the last column of benches

    My Problems
Filling in each column by cell handle is boring
At the beginning of each column I have to type Roll No. and drag the handle
Some students may be missing in the middle (students registered but dropped out)
What to do if someone is missing in the series
    The plan looks like this

    What I need
I will just fill in the Student Roll No.in the first cell and all other (89) cells will be filled in automatically.

Do you have a better solution for this?

Upload a sample workbook (anonymous data) to help with the solution. Include sufficient data and clear explanations and if, possible, a manually created example of the desired output.

Here is the sample manually made. There are 90 seats for 90 students whose Roll No Range 12101 - 12194 with 4 breaks one in 12115, two in 12134, 12135 and the other in 12180.

How to make a formula by which I enter Start Roll / Roll Range and the seats will be filled in automatically.

    Hi,

Please find excel file with a solution, when you open the file enable the macro and press ctrl+m to execute the macro. Follow and feed the information as per the request, you will have your solution.

Note: Always the number of students should be divisible by number of columns as well by the number of rows per column

I am sorry that I failed to make you understand my problem. Here the context of my problem:

I am working in an Exam Center where we hold tests of different companies. The companies provide us with Rolls/Registration Numbers of the candidates and we make sitting arrangements for them. What we usually do is to enter all the Registration Numbers in Excel and sort them from Smallest to Largest. Then we copy these Nos to paste them in our seat plans of different rooms. This cost a lot of time and patience. I know this is possible by Excel but don't know how to..

Please Look at this xls file, read my explanation and suggest a solution.
I am badly in need of this, please.

sorry I don't know to add xls file in this forum, where is the option?
You attach a workbook the same way you attach an image file when using the Manage Attachments button.

Re: Fill series automatically in certain cells across columns by formula

I downloaded your sheet and reviewed the Marco. I have a slightly different problem, and wonder if it could be adapted to solve it:

I have 25 students, who need to participate in 12 breakout classes that run 4 at a time (concurrently) with students rotating among those 4 on Monday, rotating among the next 4 on Tuesday, and rotationg among the final 4 on Wednesday. So each student has one session in each of 12 breakouts on three successive days. Now for the kicker - after each session, the attendees must be scrambled so that each session has a different mix of student. In other words, we can't just divide the group into four cohorts, and let that subset move through the sessions - each session must be a different mix. The hard part about doing this manually is that students can only take each of the 12 classes, once.

To simplify the problem, we have determined that we only need for each student to have 4 unique "classes" which means that there will be three repeats of each student mix. This greatly simplifies our program printing, and signs, as well as keeping those of us who must direct the students to their correct class, from being constantly confused. It provides enough of a random feel so that the students don't notice the slight repitition.

    Thanks,
    Chris - Birmingham, AL
