    Copying Conditional Formatting Rule

    Hi there
I have a simple list produced in excel 2007, attached, where I wish to change the colour of the text when an entry is made in column H.
I can get it to work once but can't copy the formatting rule. In the "applies to" part of the rule it will only accept absolute values.
Any ideas how I can get this to copy as it will end up a very long list and isn't practical for me to set up an individual rule for each row.
    Cheers.

    Hello,

What do you mean by "In the "applies to" part of the rule it will only accept absolute values."? The applies to box shows a cell range, in this case

    =$A$5:$J$5

Change that cell range to the range you want to apply the CF to.

Does that not work for you?

    cheers,

    Re: Copying Conditional Formatting Rule

    Hi,

Before you copy and paste the conditional formatting rule, select the entire cells of the row where you have already applied the formatting then click on "Conditional Formating" drop down and goto "Manage Rule". Double click on your rule, that will take you to different dialog box in which you can see "$H$5" change to "$H5" click "OK" and click "Apply". Now if you copy and paste you conditional formatting to other rows it will work.

Reason for not working: "$H$5" means checking will happen only for H5 cell because of the absolute referencing concept.

Please refer to the attached workbook as well for a better understanding...

    Thanks
