Vertical Data (fewer sheets) vs Horizontal Data (more sheets)

I am creating a baseball program that keeps track of statistics for multiple teams over multiple seasons.

Will the program run more smoothly if I have fewer worksheets but use 80-90% of the full length of the worksheet (using lots of hyperlinks up and down the sheets) or have less information on each worksheet but use many, many more worksheets? Or does it make no difference at all?

I'm just thinking that on an old computer with an old processor someone may have trouble with it running as quickly as it should.
