    Hello,

If you've previously used Text to Columns, there may be some settings that will split text at certain characters, like comma or blank. Click a cell with text, then go Data > Text to Columns > Delimited > next > clear all options and hit Finish. Then copy the text from the text file and paste again.

    cheers,

Hi, ive just realised whats happening, within the .txt files, it is only pasting until the first return has been made, is there anyway of bypassing this?

Yes. Before pasting, edit the source text and replace all returns with spaces. Otherwise each return character will trigger a new row. No way around that.

Or, paste one cell at a time. Copy, then select the cell, hit F2 and paste into the formula bar.

Maybe you need to step back and explain the bigger picture. Are you sure that Excel is the right tool for the job?

Re: how to prevent text from pasting into multiple fields

    Hi ok,

i have attached an example csv file, i upload this file to my website and it allocates the products to the above categories, you will see that the inmages are in jpeg format, i upload the images prior to the csv file and when the csv file is imported then it automaticaly attaches the images.

now. there is a field called long description, the long descriptions come in the form of .txt files, but the website wont recognise this therefore wont attach the .txt files, so i need to put the .txt files into the csv file beforehand, i can automatically do this however, it either stops the import at linebreaks or pstes the .txt file into multiple feilds, so i need to find an automatic way of either setting up excel to not see line breaks or or automatically taking the line breaks out of .txt files.

It wont let me up load csv file? but hopefully ou will get an understanding

http://www.textfixer.com/tools/remove-line-breaks.php this is a link to a program that removes them, but i have 1000+ .txt files to upload.

any help would be greatly appreciated

    all the best

Re: how to prevent text from pasting into multiple fields

So, if I understand you correctly, you want to use Excel to create a CSV file. You want to populate the CSV file with a series of plain text files, preserving the line feeds in the text.

What else goes into the CSV file? I assume it's not just the text. Any kind of identifier? If so, which? Can you please post a few text files that actually have text with more than one paragraph?
