Changing a date format to mmm/yy and then created a pivot chart for monthly stats

    Hi,

I have the number of contacts per month recorded on the day they come in by DATE - NAME - TOWN

I need to show the number of contacts per month.

Can anyone show me an efficient way of doing this (e.g. do I have to convert dates to mmm/yy) Is the pivot table the best way of doing it or should I use a formula?

    Example attached

    (I would like to show Jan = 4, Feb = 1, Mar = 5 in a graphic format)

    Thanks for any help

Yes a Pivot Table/Pivot Chart would be most efficient....

    See attached.

I selected the range, went to Data|Pivot Table Wizard... chose Pivot chart, click Next, confirm range, click Next, select where to put the Pivot table (the chart will be separate tab)... then click Layout.

Drag Date to row label area, drag Name to Data Area...

    click Finish.

Go to the Pivot Table, right click in the date column, select Group and Show other Detail.. then Group.

    Choose Months, click Finish.
