Lightbulb how to calculate difference of time from simple text, and add/multiply time.

    Hello guys.
i ran across another question (out of curiosity) and was wondering if you guys might be able to help.
is it possible to have excel calculate the difference of time from a value in a cell.
and then part B is to add times together (or multiply)
example: if a person is working 6:30 a day for 5 days. it should generate a value of 32:30

    spreadsheet attached.

    thanks for your help.
i scratched my head at this for about an hour, then i figured i ask you guys.

looking at your example im not sure where you are trying to calculate the difference of time, unless you are refering to cell A, in which case this can be done but will require some reformating. as for multiplying time * days you can do that, for example in your sheet set cell D5 to:

    =C5*B5

you will then need to make sure that it is formated in a way to display all those hours, you can use custome formating and the option [h]:mm

in anticipation that my assumption of what you are trying to do is correct, please see the attached with some modifications:

-I split start and end time into 2 different columns
-For the shifts ending after midnight, you need to add one day inorder for the subtraction to be accurate.

    hope this helps you out.

thanks for the reply, but reformatting will not work for me.
i am dealing with a spreadsheet that is already in place, and that is the way times are listed on there.
    3p-11p 2p-10p 12p-10p 4p-12a and so on.

its too much work to go back and reformat it all over again.
