Can the drop-down contents list on an autofilter be sorted by a custom list?

    It's sorted:
    Apr
    Aug
    Dec
    Feb...
But I'd like to see it:
    Jan
    Feb
    Mar
    Apr...
    Can that be done?

This is similar to http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...down-list.html, but slightly different.

In Excel 2010, you can sort by custom list. "Sort & Filter" > Custom Sort >
Select your column, sort by value and set "Order" to Custom List

    Find it?

Thanks. I know that on a pivot table you can make the drop-down lists sort by a Custom List, and I was wondering if you can do the same thing on a drop-down list of an Autofiltered table. Not the worksheet column itself, the Autofilter dropdown list (in the heading). I realize that I can accomplish the same thing by converting the text months to actual dates (1/1/2012, etc.) and format as "mmm", but I'd rather not do that, because then I would feel obligated to change the (non-displaying) year every year.

You can do that on any table. Instead of using the pre-existing filter dropdowns, go to the Sort icon on the Home or Data tab and follow my instructions above. Does that work for you?

Yes, that works, if I was trying to sort a table, but I'm not trying to sort a table. I'm trying to make the contents of the dropdown itself sort by a custom list rather than alphabetically. AutoFilterDropdownSample.jpg
I'd like to see the dropdown as
    (Select All)
    Jan
    Feb
    Mar
    Apr
    May

    Thanks for your patience!

Ahh, now I see it. I don't think there's any way to get the dropdown itself to put them in that order. Sorry.
