Using conditional formatting- need to leave empty cells unformatted

    For excel 2003:
I currently have a row conditionally formatted to change color of cells "greater than or equal" to the value I entered in a particular cell to green.
I have the same row formatted to also change the cell color to orange of cells "less than or equal' to value of another particular cell.

My problem is that many of the cells in the row are blank, but they are also being changed to orange.

How can I leave blank cells un-formatted? (in other words leave the fill blank?)

    Hi

If, for Orange color, you have somethihg like this, =$A1<=$B$1, then try this. =AND($A1>0;$A1<=$B$1)
    Regards

    Fotis.

You need to change to a formula and use formula like:

    =AND(A1<>"",A1<=$X$1)

where A1 is top left most cell you select to colour and X1 is cell to compare against.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Perhaps add a first CF where you enter =yourcell="" and leave unformatted

Re: Using conditional formatting- need to leave empty cells unformatted

You can have up to 3 conditions per cell for conditional formatting. Go to the Menu: Format > Conditional Formatting > Add.

Set your first condition like you already have, then add a second condition where if the cell appears blank it is colored white.

    Have I missed something? Cheers.

Re: Using conditional formatting- need to leave empty cells unformatted

The first condition should be the check to see if: Cell Value >> is equal to >> ="" so that conditional check stops there, then the other conditions will be your original ones....
