    Paste function stopped working

    Hello,

Today I have encountered a very weird problem which I haven't been able to resolve. The paste function in my workbook suddenly stopped functioning corretly as soon as I opened my workbook. When I press Ctrl-V to paste the contents of one cell into another, excel pastes the value (and formula if theres one) but doesn't paste the colour or borders of the copied cell.

However, holding Ctrl and dragging the cell I'd like to copy into another cell, copies the cell normally.

I tried opening excel into safe mode but the problem persists. Opening a new workbook which doesn't contain any data or formulas also did not help. I checked the Options in excel but I couldn't see anything that might indicate this behaviour.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

    Thank you,
    Sans

Click on the Office Button Top left of the Ribbon>Click on Excel Options> Click on Advanced. Now scroll down to "Cut, Copy & Paste" and see if those three boxes are checked. Normally they should be.

    Re: Paste function stopped working

Thank you for the reply Winon. I generally have the two boxes checked and the "Show Paste Options.." unchecked. I tried your suggestion but the problem is still there. I have also tried unistalling excel, cleaning all registry and other traces, and installing it back but the problem still persists. This is very strange as with a fresh install and opening a new empty workbook the problem should have been resolved. Is there anything else that might be causing this?

    Hi sans,

This is strange. Have you checked the available memory on your system? Maybe something there has gone wrong. Besides that there is nothing else I can suggest.

    Re: Paste function stopped working

I just finally managed to fix the problem following a members recommendation in the Microsoft forum. I unistalled the keyboard driver, and installed back again and everything works fine now. If anyone has a similar problem you can fix it by going to:

    1) Start
    2) Control Panel
    3) Printers and Other Hardware
    4) Keyboard
    5) In the Keyboard Properties window, click Hardware
    6) Click Properties
    7) Click Driver
    8) Click Uninstall, click OK
    9) Restart your Computer
    10) Restart again if prompted

This was driving me crazy so I hope someone can find this useful.

Also, in case your paste options i.e. Paste special, disappear in excel when right-clicking, then you need to disable the Skype add-on (plugin) in firefox or your browser. The skype add-on messes up with both Excel and Word.
