Recognise and count specific words

Hi, who would mind helping with this one.

I am trying to count how many cars are sold and how many commercial vehicles are sold. At the moment (as you will be able to see from the spreadsheet clip I have uploaded) I have used some simple sums to get the correct totals to calculate.

What I would ideally like the spreadsheet to do is automatically populate the "Used Car" and "Commercial" totals from the information in column D.

FYI..... TRANSIT and CONNECT are commercial vehicles and FIESTA, FOCUS and MONDEO are cars.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

You can have aditional column with defined Car, Commercial etc. and then use simple COUNTIF.

Or this approach where on 2nd sheet are defined your cars:

Hint: I've changed "used cars" into cars to match criteria on sheet2. But in formula only used will be showed.

Thanks, that looks good. Quite complex for me as I am fairly new to Excel.

I am struggling though to get it to work for cells D 94 to D 96 on Sheet 2. If you could take a look it would be great. The workbook is far from complete, excuse any mistakes due to my in experience!
