Excel Date criteria in SUMIF statement help needed

I am trying to run a calculation in Excel that calculates from a subscriber sheet how monies have grown over a period. So for example if I was paid £1 per month, in Jan it would value £1, Feb, £2, March £3 etc. In the case of this calculation I am using a SUMIF statement to deal with the criteria

Is there a way of entering a date range as a criteria into a SUMIF or SUMIFS statement ideally start of the year and end of the current month.
