How to create a duplicate 'read only' workbook that auto updates from a master workbook

    Hi All

I thought this would be a fairly simple task, but I am having trouble finding a simple answer!

I would like to create a 'read only' copy of a workbook that can be viewed but not changed and that updates from the original copy.

We have a sheet of client logins and passwords, so we want a copy of this that all staff can access to copy/paste logins but cannot change, and that updates to match the master copy which only the manager would be able to edit with any additions or changes.

Any advice on the best way to do this would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

This answer I provided on this other thread is virtually identical, and the answer is the same

Thank you Mallycat, that was a great help.

I had been trying to do this, but it wasn't working, however I just discovered that the problem was that I was opening two instances of excel and then opening the workbooks within them, when I actually needed to open both workbooks within the one instance of excel.

I did not know to remove the $, so your instructions were much appreciated, thank you.

Just another quick query in relation to this - the master spreadsheet is password protected, so when the copy is opened it also asks for a password, but if the password is entered it then says 'cannot read file'.

Is there a way to have password protection on the master workbook but not on the copied workbook?

    Thank you!
