    Timeline month/days to month/weeks?

    Timeline Draft - 2.xls

    Hi,

    I made a "TIMELINE" in excel. Time is broken up into months and days.
    I want to switch to months/weeks (to make the document much shorter).

    Any idea how I should do this? Thank you!

    if you upload a sample file with (dummy?) data in it, instead of a picture, you are more likely to get help, and to get it quicker

    Most are uninclined to retype your data to try and find a sullution for you

    i inserted a row after 4 and inerted =INT(B4/7)+1. this will give you the week numbers for that month. Maybe you could then just hide all cols you dont want, and the remaining cols would be your weeks?

    Thanks. So I inserted a new row after 4, and pasted =INT(B4/7)+1. into it..but it didn't do anything (it just put a "1" in A5). Apologies, I'm a beginner. Did I do something wrong?

    that was what it was supposed to do. it gives you the week of the month. if thats not what you were after, then perhaps i didnt understand your requirement properly?

    Because time is broken into single days, the worksheet is very long.
    I want to compact it (make it shorter) by eliminating the days, and using weeks instead (1 to 4, as there's 4 weeks in every month).

    In other words, I'd have a row for months: January February March etc.. (no changes).
    ...and below, I'd have the weeks 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 etc...

    The formula i gave you, gives you that. the only thing left, would be to hide the cols you dont want to see...note tho that i notices some of your "bars" are only 1 cell wide anyway, these may disapear if you hide the wrong cols.

    It may be easier if you started again, and did it the way you wanted?

    It might be that I don't understand what your formula does. All it did in my case was insert number "1" in A5..? How do I turn this into weeks?

    it looks at the date (1), and converts it to a week number for that month. altho i noticed that your 1st monday was still coming out as week1 for that month.

    I dont think there is any easy way around what you want to do, especially considering all the colored "bars" that you (it looks like) have manually added

    Okay, in other words, I'll need to wipe out the current calendar and re-do the whole thing manually.
