Disabling auto calculations in excel 2008 for Mac

I am working on a spreadsheet with around 10,000 rows of data and every time I open it, the auto calculation function takes over and forces me to wait a frustratingly long time before I can actually access the data in the worksheet. It is driving me mad!

It would be great if someone could please provide a simple, plain language response as to how I can disable the calculating function.

Hi Littleaffy, welcome to the forum.

I don't have a Mac, however I would think it's in a similar place as the Windows version: Excel Options > Formulas > Calculation > set to Manual. Save the workbook. To manually re-calc when needed, press F9.

On my Excel 2008 for Mac (12.3.5) I do as follows: preferences, calculation; then on the keyboard: cmd+fn (let go) +F9
