    Weird Re-appearing Formula

Hi, I'm making a spreadsheet where I can enter the shifts I work and it will calculate my shift rate multipliers.

In the attached spreadsheet cell F9 should be blank. Great, but the weird thing is when I fill in cells C6 to C9 with for instance an "E" for an early shift, a formula pops up in cell F9! It only happens when I fill in the shift for Tue, Wed, Thu and then Fri. I can't figure it out, hopefully somebody can take a look and help. I would like that F9 cell to remain blank.

    Thanks in advance.

Very strange, this is what I see. The box in red is the one I don't want and the formula that appears in it is as follows.

just delete the formula prior to adding any text in your shift column and save the sheet, shouldn't come back. Obviously there's been a formula there at some point

That's the problem! The cell is blank, no formula entered there. Then when I fill in the shift column, the formula appears there.

it's being filled from the cell above. do you have 'extend data range formats and formulas' checked in Options under the Advanced section?

Yes! Thank you, that has sorted it! How did you know it was being filled from the cell above? And what is the purpose of this extend data range option? Thanks for your help guys.

    it's the same formula ;-)

And what is the purpose of this extend data range option?
it's quite useful if you are filling in a table - as you add new data, all your formulas get filled in for you.
