Question Populating cells in another sheet

    Hi all,

    I'm new to this forum.

Was just hunting for help to a problem and came across this site - very glad I did

I've got to create a simple rota for our team and have almost sussed it with my very limited knowledge.

What I'd really like to be able to do though, is populate the "holiday" sheet each time I enter a letter "H" in a cell on the rota sheets.

Hopefully I've successfully attached the file in question.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Andy

Welcome to the forum. I'd be inclined to have both sheets the same format or build them together on the same sheet. I can see that you have put a lot of work into this but it is rather labour intensive as you know.

I'd build the holiday sheet to show all five of you with a column each in the month. On the rota sheet you could do away with the total and week number rows and put them at the side in columns M,N etc.

That way, you could then do as you have requested. As it is, you are inputting two of you in the same cell in the holiday sheet which can't be matched with anything in the rota sheet.

I'll have a play with this to see if I can come up with a better solution. In the meantime ditch the bandana!

    Cheers

    Russell

    Hi Russell,

First of all, thank you very much for checking out my post, the welcome, replying to my question and the advice - much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure I understand your suggestion and yes it does make sense.

If you could have a play with the sheet, that would be great also.

I'm an Excel noob and very keen to start improving my knowledge, seeing a solution would really help.

The Bandana - great for protecting your head out here in sunny Gib, I never wear it back in the UK though!

    Hi Andy,

We had some sun yesterday. Roll on Christmas!

Check this out. I've not done anything with your CF (which you've really gone to town on!) so you may need to change/extend it to suit.

I've got it so you just use the one sheet for input - you shouldn't need to touch your rota sheets. Your holiday sheet is named Input and if you change that it will alter everything picked up on the rota so try to resist for the time being. If the rota pages are to be shared then I'd recommend full protection. There's nothing technically difficult about it but I appreciate where you are with Excel and to be honest I'm no expert compared to many of the contributors here but I do like to be able to assist in trying to provide a comprehensive solution whenever possible.

Get back to me if you need anything else or explanations.

    Kind regards

    Russell

    Hi again Russell,

That's awesome, a much better solution.

By attaching the sheet I've been able to easily see how you've done it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to do that, I've learnt something!

If ever you're in Gib, I'll buy you a beer.

Hope the weather picks up in the UK, sounds pretty wet listening to the news.

    All the best, Andy

P.S. I'll gladly leave you good feedback.
