New Workbook problem in XL 2007

I have recently moved from Office 2003 to 2007 and am suffering from many different problems. With time I have solved most of them but I am yet to believe that there is any improvment in Excel 2007.

One that I have not solved , however, concerns opening new workbooks.

I have a template workbook that I want to open every time I create a new workbook. This is stored in XLStart and when I open Excel this is the book that opens - so far so good.

In 2003 when I wanted a new workbook whiel within Excel, I pressed Contol-n and got the book that I wanted. Now, in 2007, when I open a new workbook in the same way, I get a default 3 sheet workbook which is not what I want.

I know that I can save a template to Templates and gain access to this via New from the big round button at the top and then open a template, but this is 3 times clumsier.

I would like to know how I can get back to what I had before rather than have to waste time with mice and menus.

    Can anyone help, please?

Go to the "Big round button" - Excel Options - Popular - When creating new workbooks - Include this many sheets < make 1

This changes default settings to one.

Re: New Workbook problem in XL 2007

Thanks for the quick reponse but perhaps i have not made myself clear.

The workbook that I want to open every time has 5 sheets some of which are preformatted with picture headers of differing types in differing sheet, different Page Setups in different sheets and there are a number of custom styles as well as preselected fonts.

This is what I get when I open Excel but not when I open a new workbook using control-n from within Excel.

    Cheers

ctrl n should work the same in 2007 though maybe you need to save the template as an xltx file instead of xlt

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to
